Game Review: NFS Shift

Post by Buffalo Six » 07 Dec 2009, 08:22

ok....so its a little off the beaten path for me. But I picked it up friday for some mindless fun . NFS Shift delivered in spades, and its fun to boot.

Now, I am not using some high tech wheel/peddle combo for this, I'm driving on a $18 logitech game pad, and because I'm on a game pad I am using the easy settings, but even so....this game rocks hard. Visually it is STUNNING! The sounds are breathtaking, and the cars are a great mix of road racing types and classes, although no Ferrari's (they prolly wanted way too much $$ for their likeness).

The game is set up for you to work your way up from the minors to the big time in 4 tiers. Tier1 cars are not real fast but fun (the Nissian 2000R something is like trying to race in a Japanese taxi cab) while tier 4 cars are all exotics like Bugatti's and Pagani and the McLaren F1.

My favorite cars so far are:
Tier1 350Z. Good looks, and great handling car
Tier2 the Lotus handles well, the 2010 Camaro, Mustang, Challneger R/T look cool but handle like pigs.
Tier3 Corvett Z06R with full kit and works package is silly fast, handles great and can holds its own against anything. I also like the 911-GT2. Both of these cars I spend the most time in. They suit my style of a car that will hang the back out a little.
Tier4 Pagani Zonda R, fast, handles great, costs $1,200,000

Fav tracks are Road America (better have tall gears here) and Nurburgring......12+ miles of madness that might just be the greatest track on the planet.

So all in all, if your looking for some sensory overload....give NFS Shift a look.

It was on for 40$ on the black friday weekend. Yes I know I am in Canada but some places here put a few sales up, so I picked it up. ITs a big jump from most NFS games where its actually good, and some what serious racing. Got it for PS3.

alos if you like off road racing try Dirt 2, its meant to be a rally game but dose all kinds of off road racing types. Its the continuation of the Colin Mcrae Series, which went form Colin Mcrae 1-5 then had dirt 1 and 2 released. The Colin Mcrae where dedicated rally games and great but the Dirt ones expanded for a wider audience but again great graphics and loads of fun. And those thinking this is a joke of a game trust me ther eis a LOT you can do, the car's are fully customizable so its fun

mine is on the PC. I had CMc 1 ad 2 but its not my cup of tea.

This thing does have online play so peeps could race each other. Like I said I use the easy setting (AI brakes, traction control, no damage etc.) because I like the fun factor. sometimes we get lost in the sim part and forget the fun. Besides listening to the Z06's 500+ hp screaming at full pipe is....well....awesome.

I've been playing a racing sim called "Race 07" for a couple years now and I absolutely love it.

You really should get yourself a steering wheel set up Buff. Playing a racing sim with a gamepad is like playing a flight sim with the keyboard and mouse. ;-)

I am still running Gran Turismo 4, I love the series and when they finally come out with the 5 and not the damn prequel then I will put down the cash for a bundle pack with the full version in it. I hear it is beyond off the chain. Softball I know the XBOX answer to Granny Truismo 5 is your thing but I like the GT series and I hope they did it justice on the new platform.

Here is a link to some good stuff on GT5:

Gran Turismo is a Playstation only game as far as I know. The X360 has the Forza series, which there is Forza 3. Gator and I used to play Forza 2 quite a bit, but we haven't played it in a while. I made a Transformers "Barricade" car in it, it looked pretty good. Here is a pic of the car; it took me about 2 hours to finish painting it.

Kazunori Yamauchi’s latest motorsport outing on the Nürburgring Nordschleife as the creator of the Gran Turismo series competed in a round of the German VLN series.

Nordschleife is a great track and I've raced on it a few times in "Race 07".

I love that track in GT4, I always loved to hate it due to the fact I was forced to race sections as if they were independent of each other and not as a whole. That bastard changed more times than I do my shorts in a week. All the tracks I raced I had sections I love about them but that damn Nurburg has none, not even the str8 away.
