One idea I had was to have a base of characters - class based - but the class only determines physical attributes and not skills... The difference I see would be in general physical capabilities and size... This would also allow us to bring in alien races later if we so choose.

The large human - great physical size, able to carry large loads of equipment without becoming encumbered (affecting movement rate and maybe even actual movements), slower than average (not brains, physically), etc.

Average human - normal stature, well rounded in all physical abilities but not outstanding in any...

Quick human - a bit slighter in staure than a normal human, but extremely fast in movement rate and reactions...

Of course this means having a weight and encumbrance system for items, making things a bit more complex... Thoughts?
