Re: AV-8B cockpit build
Since I am out of commision for a bit, thought I would do a quick update on my Harrier project. First, I have released the CAD model to ny OpenHarrier group. It is far from done, but now available publicly, free of charge. I have several modelers that will also be contributing part designs to the pr...

Re: Wed Nights DCS Starting 041024
I appreciate the idea, Bones. I have selected the parts for my new computer but have to wait a little bit because our credit card is on fire with the recent registrations of all 4 of my kids in spring / summer sports. Even after I get a new computer going, I am probably not going to be able to fly o...

Re: Razbam/ED Feud
I have been following this as well. I know a couple of the Razbam guys. One of them is a secret member of my OpenHarrier open source cockpit community that I started over 2 years ago. Hopefully it gets resolved. My biggest fear is they discontinue support of the Harrier and it stops being compatible...

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
Still a work on progress on the UFC. This is a raytraced render. Still learning how to do the renders, so lighting and colors are not entirely correct.

Re: DCS: Afghanistan Available for Pre-Purchase
For such a big discount I'll be pre-ordering it for sure. LOL! It really doesn't seem like that much of a discount, does it? Especially when initially only 1 quadrant is going to have detail at release if I understood what I've read. I'm actually more concerned with the amount of hard drive space t...

Re: New Foothold Campaign: Sinai 03.21.24
Just to add to that regarding the Harrier... the Tarawa spawns for the Harrier are also not working. This can happen when there is anything on the deck, including AI. It basically prevents anything else from spawning. The Tarawa is known to be pretty buggy in this regard. I seem to recall you can fi...

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
This is an exploded assembly view of the Harrier UFC that I have been working on. I designed all of this. This is about 2+ months of work, with more to do.

Masters of the Air: Episode 8
Yes, I've been watching the series. If you haven't watched through episode 8 yet, stop reading! Otherwise... continue down below... . . . . . . . . . So... I had a lot of problems with this episode, as reality and physics pretty much went out the window. Let's start with the fighters dropping their ...

Re: Bones visits Xpendable
Actually that isn't true that your video card would be wasted. When it is being run by DCS wirh the link cable, all the rendering is performed by your video card NOT the Quest 3. You can think of the headset as another monitor connected to the video card. The only time rendering is handled on board ...

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
I've been working on replicating the radio preset selector display windows on the UFC (up front controller) on the Harrier. The real displays were made in the '80's and '90's and were vacuum florescent 16 segment displays where each segment was made with 3 little dots. These are fairly unique displa...

Re: Bones visits Xpendable
For sure, Panzer! There are companies that make custom prescription lens that get get fitted to an adapter that you can install in the headset, eliminating the need to wear your glasses inside. I haven't yet done that, but one drawback is if you want friends to be able to tryout your VR headset, you...

He also tried out VR for the first time with DCS. I think he was impressed with the depth perception.

Bones finally got to come over and see my Harrier cockpit in person this weekend. He also brought over a ton of flight gear. I'm amazed at all the detail that he has collected. We ended up attempting to a "photoshoot" with Bones sitting in the Harrier in front of a green screen. It was kin...

I also was not going to be able to make it on Wednesday because my family (minus me) leaves Wednesday night for an overnight drive from Chicago to Panama City, Florida. They do it every year. Anyway, Thursday evening is wide open for me, so I should be able to join you then.

Eagle Dynamics Database crash
Apparently Eagle Dynamics has suffered a major database outage that has taken everybody's game and modules offline. They are actively working on restoring from a backup, but no ETA has been given and I'm guessing it's been awhile already from what I can make out on the comments on ED's Discord server.

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
Yes, there are a few actual parts that come up for sale periodically. I know somebody who bought one of those. Unfortunately you will never find 90 percent of them. First of all, they built so few Harriers to begin with (380 total I think) which makes it a rarity. There are still 3 countries flying ...

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
We have a Discord as well, although it is not as active. We have a Github repo as well. Go to openharrier.org to find it easily. There is not a huge amount on the repo as of uet, but it is growing. I have my ejection seat plans there (for the Stencil SJU-4A which is in most of the USMC Harriers).

Re: AV-8B cockpit build
This is how far I have gotten with the project. I really need to find a space to put it. Using a mix of Arduino and LeoBodnar to interface with the pc. The red knob is just an addition to use as another axis if needed as I reckon I can use this with the spitfire as well. That looks pretty good, Cam...
