F/A-18 formation?

We’re in NY celebrating Deb’s b-day and I saw F-18’s fly over ahead while we were walking by the Hudson. The formation consisted of two on Parade with one further out, as if room for a fourth aircraft in between. Anyone know of this is missing man?
