Seriously, how hard would it have been for this writer to do some very basic research into Norman Lear's WWII service?

I was reading an article about the death of Norman Lear and I was flabbergasted when I came across this sentence,

"After World War II, where he was decorated for his service in a B-52 bomber,"

It's funny, yes. But, it's also quite a blunder. Any copy editor worth his or her salt should have a basic knowledge of military history and when certain legendary aircraft were in service. It's practically common knowledge, and a good editor has to be knowledgeable, at least a little bit, about everything. The B-52 should never be confused with a WWII era bomber like the B-17.
