This is the progression into phase 2 of the airfield strike mission.

FRAGO-06302022-1
Airfield strike Bandar Abbas and Havadarya

Phase 1 will consist of Air Superiority, DEAD, and Recon
Phase 2 will strike the airfield targets based upon recon data from phase 1

Commanders' intent is to reduce SAM/AAA to allow for detailed reconnaissance of Bandar Abbas (primary) and Havadarya (secondary) from the air to allow follow on strikes at these airfields. Reducing the operational capability of these airfields will cripple the enemy's air capability.

DEAD: Voodoo will draw out and engage enemy SAM installations in the Bandar Abbas area. Anti-radiation missiles and laser designated munitions are to be used. Close in self protect AA armament. Escort to be provided by Ares. Minimal 3 air frames.

ESCORT/CAP: Ares primary mission to escort and protect Voodoo and Blackbird. Maximal A2A loadout. Minimal 2 airframes.

RECON: Blackbird: once DEAD mission has commenced Blackbird is to begin recon of Bandar Abbas airfield proper. Primary targets of concern are ammo and fuel facilities, along with AAA and SAM emplacements. Secondary target is Havadarya with the same target list. Use targeting pod to record snapshots of targets. Minimal 2 airframes.

Strike: Commanche will hit the runways, fuel and ammo dumps, Once those are significantly reduced exposed aircraft are the remaining targets.

Bandar Abbas runway has been reduced to non-operational status. The enemy is currently attempting repairs on the runways. Significant numbers of Russian aircraft have been stranded at Bandar Abbas. Minimal damage to other primary targets, including fuel and ammo dumps. Havadarya runways and other targets have not been hit, the runway must be taken down to non-operational status for the airfield strikes to continue.

In additional to hitting the Havadarya runway, a Battle Damage Assessment mission must be undertaken at Bandar Abbas.

Recon mission appeared to be successful. Trichome covered me air to air while I took pix and was great in keeping them off of me so that I can concentrate on getting the shots. It was dicey, we were being attacked by bandits left and right but between us we got 6 kills. Trichome got hit just before I was able to get a shot off on the bandit, but was able to kill him and avenge Trichome.

Sorry, Tri, I wish I was able to engage him sooner. HUD footage shows that there were 2 times when I had them WVR, but didn't notice it until in the debrief...I need to get better at using the Mk1 eyeballs!

I went back to Bandar Abbas with a Hornet to try and clear out that SA-11. I got him with Rockeyes at loss to myself though. But it's gone. There are still MANPADs out there though so careful!

Intel requires BDA (Battle Damage Assessment) of Havadarya. Post any screen shots or video showing runway hits especially.

Things went very well tonight, it was just Bones, Grifter and myself until later. We decided to stick with Snowfox and try to take out additional anti-air assets left in the area. We succeeded in destroying the 2 remaining SA-11's and 2 SA-18 manpads by staying focused on the goals.

There are still additional anti-air assets in the area, but have confirmed the runway at Havadarya is destroyed. Next package will be to locate and destroy the fuel and ammo facilities as well as the remaining anti-air assets.

Command has noticed some collateral damage of other than listed targets. RoE (Rules of Engagement): Other than the listed targets, other enemy assets are not to be targeted. Hangars, control towers, parked/grounded aircraft are not targets. Use precision in attacking your targets.

11:15 - Bones hits 1 fuel tank
12:12 - Bones hits 2 fuel tanks
16:37 - you can see the 2 hit at 12:12 appear to have auto repaired

weird....

I meant to ask. Is that an actual usable / modeled weapon in DCS?

If so, can we try it once? Im so curious to see what how it looks.

DCS doesn't model nuclear explosions so I think it's just like normal ordinance but on a larger scale. We can try it. We've destroyed just about everything else at those airfields haha. It's not like we're trying to save any part of them. The video I saw made it look like a giant cluster bomb.

Trichome and I went back to Havadarya today to investigate those auto-repaired fuel cells. They were back.

I hit one with JSOW-A but it didn't die--I think cluster bombs, in DCS, don't work on targets like that even though they would IRL.

I did as a collateral, hit 2 ammo dumps southeast of there as well.

Then we got into a dogfight on the egress, I got 2 but a third one that no one saw snuck up on me and got me. Trichome went after him after that

The nuke is indeed just a large yield bomb. It is kinda silly. As Cr33p3r said, DCS doesn't model it. So what happens is, everything within a very large diameter is instantly destroyed, and DCS renders a giant crater stamp that is the same graphic for a regular bomb crater, except it is several miles large and it will flicker and look weird. Also, any aircraft below a certain altitude and within a couple of miles will instantly be destroyed. DCS won't remove most of the buildings like you would expect. It is kind of disappointing. Well, it's a hack since DCS doesn't have any notion of a nuke.

On the MVP servers we occasionally have a game where Mugga attempts to take off in a Mig21 with a nuke and everyone else on the server attempts to shoot him down before he can release. It's great shenanigans.

Hahaha. Here was my offline attempt to see the damage model. Uneventful.
