Training Monday Night 02.28.23 Feat. the A-4!

Post by Bones »

Grifter and I performing the escort mission for Hammer's Skyhawk to deliver AMG-84 Shrikes on the SA-2 site.

Grifter and I shadowed Hammer to a successful delivery then escorted him on the way out. We were threatened by MiG-29s and MiG-21s on the egress. Grifter took out one of the Fulcrums with a Phoenix shot, the CBG took out the other. The MiG-21s were a three ship, and we turned to engage and Hammer headed for the boat.

Grifter engaged the lead MiG and I took trail. Grifter's missile missed but mine hit. I turned to cover him as he was being engaged by the 2 remaining MiGs. I was able to take one MiG that was threatening Grifter out with a missile, but my remaining missiles missed. I closed to guns with Grifter covering me. I was able to kill the MiG with guns, but if I ran out Grifter had him locked up for the kill. We RTB'd but I lost my HOTAS controls (IRL). While I was troubleshooting it I didn't realize I was burning my fuel unnecessarily. I ran out of gas before I got back to the boat but I turned toward shore and Hatay. I couldn't glide that far, and just wanted to make sure I could get over the mountains, which I did. I found a patch of beach to land on and made it to a hard dead stick but successful landing. As I rolled to a stop, my Tomcat came to a complete stop *just* as it reached a creek--and my nose went right in. The cockpit filled with water up to my lap, but that was about it, haha.

Jester and I got out and awaited SAR. I switched to the LSO station to play paddles for Hammer and Grifter coming in.

Great report! Sorry I was not on. I have had several work deadlines that are dragging me down last week and this week. I plan to be on Monday night though. I have had little to no brain power to practice/train in the F-14 but I'll get to it eventually. Even last weekend I really couldn't focus much on learning a new aircraft so i wasn't on.

that was my second ever trap attempt in the A4, brke the nose gear just like the first time. 3rd trap on Wed. night (off server practice) I did much better, or at least no damage to that aircraft (had one bolter).
