Action report...

Post by Hammer »

Softball (pilot) and Madrus (rear gunner) were leading a flight of 4 IL-2's against a german ground target... Raptor and Steel were flying a sweep and ran into first a pair pf LaGG-3 escorts and then the IL-2's. Raptor played with one of the LaGG's, and I blew through them to attack the IL-2's before they could get on target. I swept head on through the IL-2 formation to try and disrupt them, but they kept on path. Sweeping around (one does not break hard in a Bf 109...) I latched onto the lead (Softball and Madrus) but had a lot of excess speed. I made a pass and came around again, reducing my speed so I could saddle up on their 6. I knew if I approached and stayed below them Madrus could not shoot at me... Softball quickly realized that if he turned he could give Madrus shots at an enemy on their 6. I landed enough cannon shots to down them, but alas Madrus had hit my engine and I could not power out of a slow stall and I crashed. I got the kill, and I think they did too...

This was a lot of fun, I hope to play more IL2 with all of you... I must say I think it is as good as Falcon! I have the software to create online coop missions - we should do that.

Steel,

You forgot the best part of our doomed flight. After we had destroyed a few of the targets (Convoy), Madrus was tracking your plane via the rear gunner and proceeded to shoot off our tail rudder. Then as I banked right to avoid your shots, Madrus was still tracking you and brought his firing cannon across our left tail wing, ripping the wing completely off. I then lost all control of the plane as it was in a right banking turn, I attempted to bail out and promptly hit the ground face down just as I jumped out of the plane.

Hey Steel, you also forgot to share your burning to death in the cockpit as your were shot down from AAA over our base. What a sight that was, one of the most dramatic kills I have seen in IL2.

I have to say, flying IL2 online was one of the BEST times I have ever had with an online flight sim. F4 is still my favorite, but IL2 is tops in the FUN dept. The planes and damage detail, the graphics, it's all there. I can't believe we haven't done this sooner. I look forward to the next time we fly IL2.

Hades,
IL2. FB will come in time...

Yah - I was "fried to a crisp" in my cockpit! That is what I get for trying to save the plane!!! :)

And even though you guys (does Madrus get ALL the credit?) did substantial damage to your own aircraft, I got credit for the kill... Maybe because I 'made' you shoot at me through your tail! :D

Ask Katana if the bookstore near them still has it for $10...

Check ebay as well...last I looked it was still about $15+ there, plus most eBay sellers want a lot for shipping...

Last night, I created a custom paint-job for my Focke-Wulf FW-190. It's so easy to recolor the plane. The paint bitmaps are just stored in a subfolder. So, next time we dogfight, you'll know who's coming at ya with that funky plane!

[For those so inclined ... open up the void.bmp in photoshop and convert it to RGB color and then add a layer with something like 60% opacity and paint away! The panel lines etc will show through your less-than-opaque layer. Then, just save it at an 8bit/channel bitmap. Let me know if you want any more info on this ...]
